Elastomer Test Systems

Traditionally, elastomer testing has relied on hydraulic solutions due to their frequency response, which typically maxed out at 200 Hz. However, as product standards and expectations have evolved, there is a growing demand for testing solutions that extend from DC up to 2000 Hz and beyond. Sdyn is at the forefront of this advancement, leading the industry with shakers designed to excel in low-frequency testing without distortion or deviation. Building on this expertise, Sdyn has upgraded its SEV300, SEV360, SEV440, and SEV450 series of Electrodynamic Shakers to accommodate elastomer testing.

These systems are integrated within a reaction frame and utilize DC offset for static loading. They are equipped with a laser displacement sensor for armature position feedback from DC to 2 Hz, a 100mV/g accelerometer for acceleration and displacement feedback beyond 2 Hz, and a load cell for both static and dynamic load feedback. The control system is developed using NI cDAQ hardware and NI LabVIEW software, offering a comprehensive interface that enables precise control of armature position, static offset/loading, dynamic testing, and more. This user-friendly design ensures intuitive operation.

Given that these systems use the armature for both static and dynamic loading, it is crucial to carefully consider the force rating. For example, a system with a 2000 kgf rating requires a safety margin of 1.2, resulting in an effective rating of 1666 kgf. If a static load of 500 kg is required, the dynamic loading should not exceed 1166 kgf (1666 kgf – 500 kg) and if a static load of 1000 kg is required, the dynamic loading should be limited to 666 kgf (1666 kgf – 1000 kg).

The system’s top plate includes a pneumatic cylinder that facilitates the movement of the reaction plate. The reaction plate is mounted on four bearings, allowing for vertical movement. The reaction frame features mounting holes at 50 mm intervals, enabling easy adjustment of the reaction plate’s position to accommodate various test sample requirements. Once adjusted, the plate can be securely bolted to the reaction frame.
